Here's a look behind the scenes of day 1 of production on We Have Our Ways. This is the new short film that I am producing. On day 1 we had an entirely female cast and crew. Our production designer said it was her first time "not being one of the only women on crew."
Earlier this week: testing out a camera that's great in low light in an awesome warehouse location in Northeast Portland with our all-female crew. I am the Producer on the project and more work still needs to be done. We Have Our Ways starts filming next month!
I recently started producing an independent short narrative film. One of my many jobs includes posting this casting call on a number of sites, going through submissions, arranging an audition schedule and finding a place for auditions. At this point, we just about set with some great actresses who are interested in the movie. Here's the casting call I put out last weekend.
WE HAVE OUR WAYS is now casting for two roles. WE HAVE OUR WAYS is directed by award-winning director Dawn Jones Redstone of Sista in the Brotherhood written by Kjerstin Johnson, former editor in chief of Bitch Magazine, and produced by Christian Henry, a television writer and producer for a network affiliate of NBC. This film is funded by the Regional Arts and Culture Council.

I'm taking the Women in Film pledge to watch 52 Films By Women this year. I had the opportunity to see. I saw Wonder Woman on opening night with Women in Film Portland as part of the #WonderWknd. I absolutely loved the movie. I'm so proud of Patty Jenkins. The "No Man's Land" sequence is really stunning. (And she had to fight the studio to keep it in!?!) The themes it touches on - the true nature of a hero, who "deserves" to be saved and the cost of war - are all explored really well.
